Last night I had to give the message at a gathering of Christians, so I used the Llama post that I put up yesterday. When I told "the Llama joke" everyone just sat there looking at me. A few had scrunched up eyebrows as they tried to understand what was funny. The rest just didn't get it (or weren't listening?)
One lady in particular had a really rough time with it. You could just see that she was really, really trying to understand why that was funny and you could see that it was really annoying her that she "didn't get it." I finished the message and we then did another 30 minutes of services. As we were packing up and leaving she was still trying to understand the Llama joke.
This probably speaks volumes about what a jerk I can be, because I was getting really tickled as I watched her wrestle with it. I'm kind of chuckling now that somewhere, today, she is probably still ocassionally coming back to that story and trying to figure out what was so funny about it.
Just as funny to me, is that last night I spent about 15 minutes myself trying to figure out how to explain why that joke's so funny to me. I can't do it. But I'll probably have that same look on my face today as I try to figure that out.
I am "fearfully and wonderfully made" (and maybe a little "weird", too!)
Thank you, Lord!

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."- Psalm 139:13-14 NIV
